~~~ AESCHYNANTHUS ~~~

Aeschynanthus are commonly called "lipstick" plants. The blossoms of many of the varieties listed have the appearance of emerging or extending from a tube of lipstick, hence the name "lipstick" plant. Flower colors range from red, orange, and combinations of red, yellow and orange. May be grown in hanging baskets and placed outside in the summer in shaded areas. Indoors, grow in south or west windows for best results. Let soil become slightly dry between waterings. Use a light porous potting mix. Feed plants regularly, using a well balanced fertilizer, at 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water, with every watering. Fertilizer may be increased to 1/2 to 1 full tsp. per gallon of water during spring, and summer, when plants are actively growing, depending upon the size of the plant. (Larger plants can handle more fertilizer.)

	Holiday Bells - $6.00 Clusters of festive red flowers are striped with purple and yellow emerge from translucent, coral-rose, bell shaped calyces. Good trailing and blooming habits. (Kartuz)
	humilis - $7.00 (formerly listed here as hildebrandii) Dwarf, velvety green leaves are crowned with cluster of fiery scarlet tubular flowers that are everblooming. An ever-popular variety that should be in your collection.
	Lipstick Plant - $6.00 A magnificent cultivar that easily provides lush growth and clusters of red tubular flowers extending from red calyx. (We have tried for the past few years to identify this variety so it could have a "proper" name, but know one has been able to identify it!)
	lobbianus - $6.00 Cream throat, on red blooms, with long, wine colored calyx, deep green leaves.
	lobbianus (variegated) - $7.00 White variegation, with reddish tips on the mature leaves, make for a striking contrast to the fluted wine calyx and red flowers.
	obconicus - $6.00 Large growing, waxy green leaves, translucent, cherry bell shaped calyx, frames the breathtaking red blooms.
	Tricolor - $6.00 Smaller growing, medium green leaves; red blooms have nearly black stripes and yellow-orange protruding from the throat.
	xSplendidus - $7.00 ALT PHOTO (formerly listed here as speciosus) A spectacular array of large, brilliant yellow and orange flowers, in terminal clusters, are produced upon long, fleshy, pointed leaves. A very large growing, beautiful plant that is extremely popular.
